National Highway in Assam
Assam's 414-kilometer National Highway
That there are still 2,735 km of two-lane National Highways (NH) in Assam and 414 km of even less-than two-lane NH is astounding. Based on this data, it is evident that Assam still needs to improve its National highways , which ought to have four lanes or more to facilitate better traffic flow.
The entire length of NH in the state of Assam is 4077 km, according on the information currently available. Only 14 km of this are longer than four lanes, and 914 km of this are four lanes. The 14-kilometer section of NH that has more than four lanes is the part that makes up the Guwahati bypass road. The completion of this stretch is anticipated by the middle of this year, and work is now underway. The Indian National Highway Authority is in charge of that section. In Assam, 414 km of the NH are less than two lanes, while 2735 km are two lanes, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
On the other hand, 975 km of NH are now being developed and widened to four lanes by National Highways Infrastructure and Development Corporation Limited. Forty-three packages comprise the work. These 43 packages include the section of NH from Jorhat to Dibrugarh, which has grown extremely dangerous due to the slow progress of maintenance.
The state of Assam currently operates nine different toll gates, it should be mentioned. As per the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, all toll gates in Assam are configured.
